Errors are fixed in the open
A register that quietly edits its own record is worth nothing. Corrections are entries in the timeline, visible in the same place as the claim they correct.

How a correction works
When a published case turns out to contain an error, the case is not deleted and the text is not silently swapped. A Correction event is added to the timeline stating what was wrong and what the accurate version is, and the previous version is retained in the audit record.
This is the standard press practice, and it works in favour of trust rather than against it: a register that shows its corrections is one whose other entries can be believed.

Where an error affected the substance of a case, such as the company involved, the severity, or whether an event happened at all, it is also listed on this page rather than only inside the case.

Telling us about an error
Write to corrections@themachinerecord.com with the case reference, which is shown at the top of every case page in the form TMR-0166. Target response is two working days.
If you are a company named in a case and want to publish a statement rather than correct a fact, use the right of reply instead. Both routes are open to you at once.
